The University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE-IUL) is a public university that was established in 1972. Its scope relates to the pursuit of teaching, research and community service activities. The University Institute of Lisbon has currently enrolled more than 9.000 students in undergraduate (46%) and postgraduate (54%) programs and a total of 450 teachers and 240 non-teaching staff.
The University Institute of Lisbon is proud to be one of the most dynamic and innovative universities in Portugal producing, transmitting and transferring knowledge to society according with the highest international standards. The University Institute of Lisbon is a research oriented university with a multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary approach. It includes eight research units and the following six laboratories:
• The Communication Sciences Laboratory,
• The Laboratory of Visual and Digital Cultures,
• The Computer Laboratory,
• The Telecommunications Laboratory,
• The Digital Fabrication Laboratory, and
• The Laboratory of Social and Organizational Psychology.
THE COMMUNICATION SCIENCES LABORATORY
The Communication Sciences Laboratory (LCC-IUL) is focused on the analysis of communication practices in their different models – from digital to analogic and from text to image, passing through sound. The LCC-IUL is renowned not only for making contributions to academic research but also to the wider community. For example, the News Barometer initiative, which is a product of the Journalism and Society Project, in association with the European Journalism Observatory, has weekly mass media exposure in Portugal.
In a context marked by educational innovation procurement and by research diversification in science communication, the LCC-IUL lab offers its users a multifunctional space where they can conduct experiments and analyses that require access to specialized resources and tools.
Master students, PhD students and researchers in Communication Sciences, as well as journalists, can use the lab for activities related to the training initiatives of these students.
THE CENTER FOR RESEARCH AND STUDIES IN SOCIOLOGY The Center for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-IUL) is a research unit of the School of Sociology and Public Policy of the University Institute of Lisbon. The Center for Research and Studies in Sociology was established in 1985. The Centre’s general aims are to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and the development of society. Its strategic guiding principles are scientific quality, social relevance and internationalisation. The Center for Research and Studies in Sociology carries out basic research projects in the fields of sociology and public policy, but also develops relevant activity in the fields of political science, communication sciences, educational sciences, urban studies and social work.
Role in the project
The University Institute of Lisbon will undertake the responsibility of successfully replicating the Dutch National MediaCoach initiative in the Portuguese context. The University Institute of Lisbon, as an adopting organisation will perform:
• the preliminary assessment of the context in which the scaling up will occur.
• the adaptation and the cultural tuning of the MediaCoach initiative in the Portuguese national context.
• the delivery of the MediaCoach initiative to a total of one hundred (100) professionals working with youth in Portugal.
• the scaling up activities required for the widespread exploitation of the MediaCoach initiative in Portugal.
Finally, the University Institute of Lisbon has the responsibility to deliver the dissemination and exploitation activities in Portugal so as to facilitate the further scalability and replicability of the European MediaCoach initiative.
